The Hot Lap Designs Steering Link Assortment gives XB2, XT2, and SCX racers a much wider range of steering tuning than the standard Xray options.

W (Square) Links

• 0.5W mm

Unlike the stock Xray links, which change in 2 mm increments, these links fill the gaps between the standard sizes while also adding longer options to further reduce steering on extremely high-grip surfaces.

How Steering Link Length Affects Handling

Two things happen when changing steering links:

• Shorter links make the car more aggressive off-power, increasing initial steering and corner entry response.
• Longer links smooth the car off-power, reducing initial steering and making the car more forgiving.

Circle Links

Short (0.5–1.5 mm)

These produce the quickest steering response and the most aggressive off-power feel. They’re ideal for tight, technical layouts where maximum corner entry is needed.

Medium (2.0–2.5 mm)

These offer an excellent balance of steering and stability. They calm the car slightly without making it feel lazy, making them a great choice for medium to large carpet tracks and many sealed clay conditions.

Long (3.0–4.0 mm)

Designed primarily for the XT2 and SCX, these significantly reduce steering and make the vehicle much more stable on extremely high-grip tracks. If you find yourself lowering your dual rate to make the truck easier to drive, these links accomplish the same goal while maintaining a more natural steering feel.

These links create a noticeable push through the corner and require the use of a steering stop.

W (Square) Links

The W links change the steering curve rather than simply reducing steering.

Compared to the equivalent Circle link, a W link transfers some of the initial steering into on-power steering. The result is a smoother-feeling car that rotates less entering the corner but continues to steer well as throttle is applied.

As the W number increases, this effect becomes more pronounced:

• Smaller W links retain more initial steering.
• Larger W links provide a smoother, more stable feel with increased on-power steering.

These links are especially popular on high-grip carpet tracks.

Common Starting Points

• 2.5W – Most common choice for clay.
• 1.5 Circle – Small to medium carpet tracks.
• 2.0 Circle – Medium to large carpet tracks.
• 2.5 Circle – Popular starting point for the XT2 and SCX.
